We sucked happily the fruits

of our knowledge on the Garden

State Parkway past midnight.

I showed him the waning phase of the moon

and he told me why lightning snakes

violent to kiss the horizon. His presence

was thundering close to my skin, 

but his hand never reached out for mine. 

I may not have been first girl

to walk through this world,

but there were three men

with me in that car:

Adam, the Devil, and God.
